Free cell phones are now a civil right

This seams to be big news at the moment, I wonder why it wasn't so much stink about this when Maryland did this? That's right, for those of you that didn't know Maryland has the same deal and you don't even have to be on public assistance all you need to be is low income I think. I know a couple of people that have the free Obama phones. They are both on Social Security, not welfare. I'm not sure about how many minuets they are allowed here in Md. though I do know that they get the free phones.

Pennsylvanians on public assistance now have a new 'civil right' -- free cell phones. Meanwhile, the rest of us get to pay higher cell bills as a result.

Recently, a federal government program called the Universal Service Fund came to the Keystone State and some residents are thrilled because it means they can enjoy 250 minutes a month and a handset for free, just because they don't have the money to pay for it. Through Assurance Wireless and SafeLink from Tracfone Wireless these folks get to reach out and touch someone while the cost of their service is paid for by everyone else.

You see, the telecommunications companies are funding the Universal Service Fund to the tune of $4 billion a year because the feds said they have to and in order to recoup their money, the companies turn around and hike their fees to paying customers. But those of use paying for the free service for the poor, should be happy about this infuriating situation, says Gary Carter, manager of national partnerships for Assurance, because "the program is about peace of mind." Free cell service means "one less bill that someone has to pay, so they can pay their rent or for day care...it is a right to have peace of mind," Cater explained.

Well, the telecommunications companies don't seem to love providing this 'right' to poor folks because they are trying to renegotiate the deal with the FCC. The telecommunications companies like Verizon and AT&T want more paying customers, but their desire to reform their deal with the feds dovetails nicely with the political ideology of the current FCC chairman Julian Genachowski, who like all Obama administration flunkies sees 'rights' where others see 'priviledges'.

Just listen to how the agency put the question of providing broadband and cell service to those in rural and poor communities. "The goal of reform is to provide everyone with affordable voice and broadband," the agency said.

Between 14 million and 24 million Americans lack access to broadband, "and immediate prospects for deployment to them are bleak," the FCC said in a report last year. "Many of these Americans are poor or live in rural areas that will remain unserved without reform of the universal service program and other changes," the report said.

But who says that cheap or free broadband is anything more than a luxury?
Well, another Obama flunkie, Rahm Emanuel, that's who. As we reported in June , the new mayor of Chicago was all excited to proclaim the wonderful news of free internet service to poor kids in Chicago's worst neighborhoods. And how could Mayor Emanuel pay for this new 'civil right'?

Well, because the federal government extorted the money from Comcast when it wanted to buy NBC-Universal. Once again FCC chairman Genachowski was all about "helping the kids" by forcing the internet provider to give poor kids free netbooks, laptops, and internet service, indefinitely. And who is going to pay for this gift? Well, of course the rest of us poor saps who actually pay our bills.

Air Car is it Really Here

What is this?
Will it be the next big thing?              Tata Motors thinks so.

It is an auto engine that runs on air.  That's right, air not gas or diesel or electric but just the air around us.  Take a look.

Tata Motors of India has scheduled the Air Car to hit Indian streets by August 2011

The Air Car, developed by ex-Formula One engineer Guy N. For  Luxembourg-based MDI, uses compressed air to push its engine's pistons and make the car go.

The Air Car, called the "Mini CAT" could cost around 365,757 rupees in India or $8,177 US.

The Mini CAT which is a simple, light urban car, with a tubular chassis, a body of fiberglass that is glued not welded and powered by compressed air.  A Microprocessor is used to control all electrical functions of the car.  One tiny radio transmitter sends instructions to the lights, turn signals and every other electrical device on the car.  Which are not many.

The temperature of the clean air expelled by the exhaust pipe is between 0-15 degrees below zero, which makes it suitable for use by the internal air conditioning system with no need for gases or loss of power.

There are no keys, just an access card which can be read by the car from your pocket.  According to the designers, it costs less than 50 rupees per 100 KM, that's about a tenth the cost of a car running on gas.

It's mileage is about double that of the most advanced electric car, a factor which makes it a perfect choice for city motorists.  The car has a top speed of 105 KM per hour or 60 mph and would have a range of around 300 km or 185 miles between refuels.

Refilling the car will take place at adapted gas stations with special air compressors.  A fill up will only take two to three minutes and costs approximately 100 rupees and the car will be ready to go another 300 kilometers.

This car can also be filled at home with it's on board compressor.  It will take 3-4 hours to refill the tank but  it can be done while you sleep.

Because there is no combustion engine, changing the 1 liter of vegetable oil is only necessary every 50,000 KM or 30,000 miles.  Due to it's simplicity, there is very little maintenance to be done on this Car.

This Air Car almost sound to good to be true.  We'll see in August.

There was a small church in Texas that had a very big-busted lady Organist. Her breasts were so huge that they bounced and jiggled while she played the organ.
Unfortunately, she distracted the congregation considerably. The very proper church ladies were appalled. They said something had to be done about this or they would have to get another Organist.

So, one of the ladies approached her very discreetly and told her to mash up some green persimmons and rub them around and on the nipples of her breasts hoping maybe they would shrink in size, but warned her not to eat or get any of the green persimmons near her mouth, 'because they are so sour they will make your mouth pucker up and you won't be able to talk properly for a while'.  She agreed to try it.

The following Sunday morning the minister got up in the pulpit and said....

'Dew to thircumsthanthis bewond my contwol, we will not hath a thermon tewday.'

Then and Now

Over 5000 years ago, Moses said to Israel, 'Pick up your shovels, mount your asses and camels, and I will lead you to the Promised Land.'

When Welfare was introduced, Roosevelt said, 'Lay down your shovels, sit on your asses, and light up a Camel, this is the Promised Land.'

Today, the government has stolen your shovel, taxed your asses, raised the price of Camels, and mortgaged the Promised Land to China

Buy American Made

Well over 50 yrs ago I knew a lady who would not buy Christmas gifts if they were made in China. Her daughter will recognize her in the following.

Did y'all see Diane Sawyer's special report? They removed ALL items from a typical, middle class family's home that were not made in the USA .

There was hardly anything left besides the kitchen sink. Literally. During the special they showed truckloads of items - USA made - being brought in to replace everything and talked about how to find these items and the difference in price etc..

It was interesting that Diane said if every American spent just $64 more than normal on USA made items this year, it would create something like
200,000 new jobs!

I WAS BUYING FOOD THE OTHER DAY AT WALMART and ON THE LABEL OF SOME PRODUCTS IT SAID 'FROM CHINA '

FOR EXAMPLE THE "OUR FAMILY" BRAND OF THE MANDARIN ORANGES SAYS RIGHT ON THE CAN 'FROM CHINA '

I WAS SHOCKED SO FOR A FEW MORE CENTS I BOUGHT THE LIBERTY GOLD BRAND OR THE DOLE SINCE IT'S FROM CALIF.

Are we Americans as dumb as we appear --- or --- is it that we just do not think. The Chinese, knowingly and intentionally, export inferior and even toxic products and dangerous toys and goods to be sold in American markets.

70% of Americans believe that the trading privileges afforded to the Chinese should be suspended.

Why do you need the government to suspend trading privileges? DO IT YOURSELF, AMERICA !!

Simply look on the bottom of every product you buy, and if it says 'Made in China ' or 'PRC' (and that now includes Hong Kong ), simply choose another product, or none at all. You will be amazed at how dependent you are on Chinese products, and you will be equally amazed at what you can do without.

Who needs plastic eggs to celebrate Easter? If you must have eggs, use real ones and benefit some American farmer. Easter is just an example. The point is do not wait for the government to act. Just go ahead and assume control on your own.

THINK ABOUT THIS: If 200 million Americans each refuse to buy just $20 of Chinese goods, that's a billion dollar trade imbalance resolved in our favor...fast!!

Most of the people who have been reading about this matter are planning on implementing this on Aug. 1st and continue it until Sept. 1st. That is only one month of trading losses, but it will hit the Chinese for 1/12th of the total, or 8%, of their American exports. Then they might have to ask themselves if the benefits of their arrogance and lawlessness were worth it.

Remember, August 1st to Sept. 1st !!!!!! START NOW.

Send this to everybody you know. Let's show them that we are Americans and NOBODY can take us for granted.

If we can't live without cheap Chinese goods for one month out of our lives, WE DESERVE WHAT WE GET!

Pass it on, America ...

Worcester County Sheriff's STAR Team

On Saturday of last week I posted that I had received calls from various people in Pocomoke that had witnessed alot of police activity in the Linden/Fourth/Oxford Street areas of town.  At least two officers were standing in the street holding assault rifles and one witness saw an arrest being made.

Because drugs and drug crimes are so present in almost every city and town arcross America it is always easy to jump to the conclusion that this was a drug bust.

As it turns out it quite possibly wasn't a drug bust at all.

It has been brought to my attention that what some witnessed was the STAR team. (Sheriff  Tactical Armed Response) team serving warrants.  The STAR team is used for many reasons.

Please read:
The Sheriff's Tactical Armed Response Team (STAR) is a 12 man unit that is responsible for handling hostage situations, barricaded gunmen, high risk warrant services and other crisis situations that require the use of the team's special training and skills.

The Worcester County Sheriff's STAR Team was formed in 1991, in response to a growing number of potentially violent incidents that our deputies were called upon to handle. Of primary concern was the number of search warrants generated by the Narcotics Task Force and the growing number of loaded firearms that were being recovered as those warrants were served. Irrespective of the problems associated with narcotics search warrants, it was also recognized that patrol deputies had to deal with armed and barricaded suspects without having the capability of calling upon a specialized unit with the agency. Although at the time the office was capable of calling for specialized assistance from other agencies, such assistance can bring with it certain problems that could be mitigated by having the same capability with our own agency. It was known that any tactical team acts only within the limits of its training and the dictates of existing political dogma that surrounds its agency and team orientation. These problems were eliminated by forming, training, and maintaining our own tactical team. Our Office responsibility and county liability were the key issues.

There have been occasions since the STAR Team was formed when they were called upon to take over tactical situations that were deemed to be overly hazardous for patrol deputies. Knowing the abilities of and having confidence in a team is essential during these situations. We have found that our Team has the ability to take control of a situation and bring it to a conclusion in the most effective means available.

We have also learned since the formation of the team that its constant training in tactics, specialized weaponry, team movement, and organizational unity, have brought with it a built in measure of safety that cannot compare with any other unit with the agency. Because safety is the primary objective of any tactical unit, it is a large part of anything that our team does whether in training or during an actual operation.

With respect to the high risk entries associated with narcotics search warrants, it is obvious that on most occasions the greatest danger is dealing with the unknown. There are several things that we do know about people who deal in illicit drugs. They are often drug user themselves and they are desperate with respect to earning enough money to support their own narcotics habits. They are often paranoid, as a result of their narcotics usage, and they are rarely willing to go to jail. Recognizing these issues the team takes the necessary precautions to safeguard themselves to quickly and effectively subdue narcotics dealers and their associates.

The issue of changing demographics is one we cannot control, however, we must continue to monitor and make adjustments for them. As change continues and safety issues remain, the Worcester County Sheriff's Office finds it necessary to maintain a resource, upon which we can draw during those times when the normal approach is inadequate. The STAR Team has proved itself to be a valuable means by which to bring dangerous situations to a prompt and safe conclusion. Without the availability of this asset, it is believed that our deputies may needlessly be faced with having to place themselves in jeopardy when they might not have to otherwise.

It is hoped that the STAR Team will continue to serve the office in the efforts to provide a safe environment for the citizens of Worcester County. It has done so time and time again since its inception and is dedicated to doing so in the future.

The members of the team are assigned to different divisions of the Worcester County Sheriff's Office as their primary duty assignment. The STAR Team is a secondary assignment for which the members volunteer and are on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Deputies that apply to the team for a position must pass a physical fitness test, have a minimum average firearms score of 90 percent, and attend an interview with the current team members. The applicants are then selected by the team members based on their performance in the application process. Deputies interested in serving on the STAR Team must have a minimum of two years experience with the Office and be in excellent physical condition. He or she must pass the basis SWAT training course. He or she must have a good departmental performance record.

Escape at the Somerset County Detention Center

The guy went over the fence and his girlfriend was waiting for him in a car.

At ECI, there was an inmate that died of a heart attack and one that was injured in a fight, but he didn’t die.

THESE STATEMENTS ARE TRUE.

*****************************************************************************************************************
Its my understanding that a news reporter (in Salisbury) is saying an inmate from ECI killed somebody and escaped and for the public to be on the look out.

TIME MACHINE ... The Wild, Wild East!

January, 1911

(The Washington Post)

FEARS FOR HER LIFE

Mrs. J. L. Sturgis Of Pocomoke City
Asks For State Aid.

RECEIVES BLACK HAND LETTER

Wife of Bank President, Ordered to Leave $100 "Under Doorsteps," Calls Upon Thomas Ewell, State Fire Marshal, for Protection- Friends of Men Sent to Jail Suspected.

Special to The Washington Post

Baltimore, Jan. 23- Fearing that life and property are in danger, Mrs. John L. Sturgis, of Pocomoke City, Md., wife of the president of the national bank of that town, has appealed to State Fire Marshal Thomas Ewell for protection.

Col. Ewell received a letter from Mrs. Sturgis yesterday, including a missive written in a disguised hand, and which Mrs. Sturgis believed was sent to her by "Black Handers." The letter reads:

"Mrs. Sturgis: You are here bye notified to leave $100 under the door steps Sunday night or you died with all property burnt."

Factions in the Town.

A skull and crossbones were roughly drawn under this, while the name "Secretary" was signed to the note. Mrs. Sturgis found the note under the door last week, and has been very much frightened ever since.

Col. Ewell is of the opinion the letter was sent by friends of the five men who were sentenced to jail about a month ago on charges of arson, at his instance. Pocomoke City, he says, is divided into two factions, and one of the factions is continually annoying the other. The incarcerated men belong to one faction, while Mrs. Sturgis lives in the part of the town where the other faction is located.

August, 1923

There was concern in Pocomoke City that at least several of six escapees from the Eastern Penitentiary in Philadelphia had been retained by lawless bootleggers to terrorize Pocomoke citizens. The escapees had reportedly been seen in the Pocomoke area while at the same time there was an increase in threats and fires around town. The home of Rev. J.R. Bicking, one of the leaders of a citizens committee waring against the bootleggers and crime, was burned. Many Pocomoke City citizens were carrying guns, raising prospects that there would be a clash between the vigilantes and the bootlegging lawbreakers.

October, 1923

(The Tyrone Daily Herald [Pennsylvania])

Barn Wrecked By Explosion

Pocomoke City, Md., Oct 11- Bootlegging vengeance was in evidence here again when another building was totally wrecked, this time the barn of Sylvester Messick, a retired lumber merchant, living on Walnut Street. A terrific explosion shook the neighborhood. Messick's barn had been blown to atoms. He is one of the special officers sworn in some time ago, and has been active in the apprehension of those who have been arrested for illicit liquor traffic. The barn contained nothing of special value. There is no clue to the perpetrator.
