Weather may have contributed to accident fatality

     On January 12th, 2024, at approximately 10:35 PM, Deputies from the Worcester County Sheriff's Office responded to the 13300 block of Selby Rd, Bishopville, Maryland for a single vehicle collision. The Worcester County Sheriff's Office Crash Reconstruction Unit was assisted by the Ocean City Police Department’s Traffic Safety Unit and the Worcester County State’s Attorney Office.

      Initial investigation revealed that a single vehicle left the roadway during inclement weather and collided with a tree. The vehicle sustained extensive damage. Responding Emergency Medical Services pronounced the passenger, Nicholas Charles Schewe, deceased on scene. The driver, Liam Strum, was transported due to his injuries to Tidal Health.

Pocomoke City Woman Is Crash Fatality

A Pocomoke City woman was killed after a pick-up
truck collided with her van on Route 113, Maryland 
State Police reported. 

On Friday, May 3 at about 5:20 p.m., the Maryland
State Police, Worcester County Sheriff’s Office and
the Snow Hill Fire Department responded to the 
area of Route 113 near Timmons Road in Snow Hill
for a two-vehicle collision, police said.

Police said a 2014 Dodge Ram truck driven by
Chance Michael Potts, 18, of Pocomoke City was
traveling south at the time.

The truck crossed over the center line and collided 
with a 2016 Chevy van that was traveling north,
police said. The driver of the van, Charlotte Sophia
Teter, 66, of Pocomoke City, succumbed to her 
injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Notification to next of kin has been made for the 
deceased, police said.

Both north and southbound lanes of Route 113 
were closed in the area of the crash scene for 
approximately 3 hours, police said. The crash is
still under investigation.

Double Fatality In Accomack County

At 10:15 Monday night a double fatal accident occured on Bobtown Road. Melfa, Painter and Exmore responded to the accident.


On August 1, 2011 at approximately 2214 hours Virginia State Police was called to a single vehicle accident on Route 178 north of Route 609 in Pungoteague, Accomack, Virginia.

A single vehicle, 1996 Buick Century was traveling on Route 178 when it ran off the road to the right struck a tree stump and overturned, killing the driver and front seat passenger.

The vehicle was occupied by four occupants The back two passengers were taking to the local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.


The driver Cecilio Purneda Alaniz, 53 YOA, of Craddockville, VA. died at the scene. The front seat passenger Shirley Mae Tate, 72 YOA, of Craddockville, VA also died at the scene.


Notification to family members has been made. All occupants were wearing their seat belts, alcohol was a factor.

Currently the investigation is on-going.
