~ REPOST~ Crisfield Mudbog CANCELED

REPOST~  Crisfield Mudbog CANCELED

PLEASE NOTE:
The mudbog scheduled for Sunday, May 26, 2013 has been CANCELED
due to excessive water on the Crisfield Elks Lodge grounds.

NO MUDBOG IN JUNE

Since yesterday the committee members have found that rescheduling for June would cause a scheduling conflict with the Elks Lodge. Keep in mind that the Crisfield Elks Lodge schedules so many other wonderful events other than provide a place for mudbogging and making us comfortable on race day.

A new date will be decided and I will have all of that information for you when I receive it.

The next race date is Saturday, July 13, 2013 in Snow Hill sponsored by the Snow Hill Volunteer Fire Company.

This is the first time the Snow Hill Volunteer Company has sponsored a mud bog and I hope all of you will help make it a success. More information will be posted soon.

Thanks for your understanding and patience!

Kids "Touch A Truck" Event ~ Vehicles Needed!!

Gumboro/Crisfield Mudboggers ~
This was brought to your attention at the last race during the driver's meeting.  Since trucks are still very much needed I thought I should bring it to your attention once again.

From Trinity Logistics:
Touch a Truck event to be held 10/6 in Seaford from 10-2. We still need awesome trucks and cool vehicles for kids to clamber over to raise money for our local Fire Dept to purchase a life saving device called a LUCAS device. Can you participate? Information can be found here; www.ttifoundation.org  or email Brandy direct.

3rd annual "Touch-a-Truck" family event will be held October 6th from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m., and you’re invited!

We are opening up the Trinity Logistics Seaford, Delaware parking lot to create a child’s (and a trucker’s) paradise! The event will feature all types of equipment for kids to touch, feel, and explore, including trucks, bulldozers, electrical units, fire trucks, police vehicles, limos, and a smokehouse on wheels!

This event is open to the community and we’re hoping to reach out to local children especially.

Fun activities for kids will include face painting, a horn honking show, and "meet the local heroes", where our local policemen and firemen will interact with the youth. There will also be plenty of refreshments! Proceeds benefit the purchase of a local fire company/EMS to purchase a life saving device.

Come on out and touch a truck for a good cause!

Gumboro/Crisfield Mudbogs Racing Points As of 9/1/12

The mudbogging season will come to a close locally with the last event being held in Gumboro, Delaware on October 13, 2012.

Racing for the closing events is going to be a nail biter!  A few of the drivers are very close in points and anything can happen in that mud pit....(we've all learned that heartache).

Gumboro MudBog Season Opens

Gumboro Mudbog
Saturday  May 5, 2012

Mudbog season is finally here!

All trucks clean and shining....changes for some were made over the winter...and ready to go!

I  believe the final count was 72 entries in the various race classes.  Keep in mind that some of these driver enter two and three different classes and don't get to finish the racing day due to a malfunction with the truck....such as "The Short and Sassy" which suffered a broken drive shaft (and some other problems) in it's first race of the season.

Now, to set the record straight concerning my thoughts (because I take this crap pretty seriously)... this can happen to any truck at any time.  I've seen it happen many times.  I'm just glad it happened during the first of the season instead of having accumulated points and be near the season end when points are most important.

187 East Performance/ Bowden Racing didn't seem the same Saturday without Johnny.  It seems Johnny Edwards, driver of "In the Mix",  has taken the season off.  We're all going to miss him and his family this summer.  But at least I know I will leave at the end of the racing day with my nerves in tack.   His driving makes me nervous!

On this particular Saturday mudbog history was made at Gumboro.  "Wild Fire" and driver Sonny Sturgis made their first venture to the muddy track.  Because Sonny wasn't able to drive he designated Donald to drive.  Well, the "Mud Doc", I call him,  had never driven in the mud.  Oh, he's a racer but all of his driving has been done on the dry tracks in places like Delmar.

"Wild Fire" w/ Donald  Bowden driving

In case you don't know - Donald has worked on many of the engines in these trucks for many years.  He knows engines...he knows racing and how to race....but he's never ventured into the mud.

So, wearing the T-shirt that read "Drive it like you stole it"  under his racing suit Donald sets out for his first mud race competion!

If believe this is the Modified Class and Donald ended with a time of 4.56 !!   If I'm not correct I'm sure one of them will correct me.  What a thrill it was for all of us to see!  Here's a guy that has been there for all of us through the years and is always there with us on racing days.

He's seen trucks go into the mud and out of the mud.  He's seen them stuck in the mud and he's seen them zig zag and catch fire.  But he never had the opportunity to drive....until this Saturday.

I hope he's still smiling........

More photos soon.

Gumboro Mudbog Racing Has Begun

Gumboro/Crisfield Mudbogs opened the 2012 season on Saturday under foggy skies but the weather didn't seem to put a damper on the amount of mud trucks anxiously awaiting opening day.

I'll have more photos and video posted later.

But first here's something that, in my opinion, you need to know.

The Modified Race was "The William "Mike" Brittingham Mudbog Tribute Race.

After very successful pass through 200 feet of mud Charlie Price, driver of "Midnight Express",  stopped his truck, removed his helmet and presented it to someone in the granstands.  During the remainder of the race day Charlie's helmet was passed around in the grandstands and pit area to collect funds for the Mike Brittingham family.

"Midnight Express" / Driver Charlie Price

For those who may not know,  "Mike" Brittingham  was killed in a vehicle accident a few weeks ago.  He was an avid fan of mudracing and  Mike's untimely death  leaves behind a wife and four young children.  Funds collected will go into a trust fund for Mike's  children.

GREAT JOB, CHARLIE !

Mudbog Trophies and Awards

2011 Gumboro Crisfield Mudbog Banquet
Saturday  March 31, 2012
Crisfield Elks Lodge
Crisfield, Maryland

What a delicious meal the  ladies of the Crisfield Elks Lodge  prepared for the mudbog drivers and guests!  If you left the banquet that night hungry it was your own fault!  In my opinion it was by far the best meal we have experienced since the banquets began.  Thank you Crisfield Elks Lodge!

Most of us felt just a little out of place.  It seemed strange to be in Crisfield at night instead of the morning hours.  There were no mud trucks brought along, no mud...NO racing.  And the only washing done that night was  washing the dishes and the drivers weren't asked to do that.  Seemed a little odd for all of us to be together and not be in the hot sun getting ready for a  day of racing.  Great to see everyone and congradulations to all of you that won trophies and/or awards.

Mud Bog Team Participates In "Touch A Truck" in Parksley

What a great time the 187 East Performance mud trucks  drivers had on Saturday, November  5, 2011  in Parksley, Virginia.  The "Touch A Truck" event along with all Fall Festival events were canceled from the week before due to the rainfall we experienced that day  - all day long!  Only a few events were salvaged for this day.  It certaily was a shame because Parksley ALWAYS goes all out for this festival.

But the guys with the trucks were satisfied....they were able to please lots of children.

On  this Saturday the skies were clear but it sure was windy! ....Did I mention cool?   The gentlemen in the above photo had the right idea!  Wool uniforms!

"All Night Soldier"
Driver Patrick Long

"Sod Buster"
Driver Barry Long

All of us had quite a laugh the evening before when my "go to guy" Patrick made the comment that he hoped all of Parksley was awake by the time the mudtrucks rolled into town.  Each truck has an enormous powerful roar of a voice when it runs and I couldn't  help but laugh out loud  that day at the deafening sound these powerful  trucks made as they were unloaded and lined up in the street.

"Short and Sassy"
Driver Barry Wise

It's a "man thing" to enjoy the huge rumble sound  these trucks make.  I hope that no one was rolled out of bed that day as that rumble sound echoed through the steets.

For those that may not know "Touch A Truck" is an event that allows children the chance to see up close the many types of vehicles they see on a daily basis.  Most of the children who sat in the trucks on Saturday couldn't see over the window in any of the trucks!  They all had a great time.

I can't forget to mention that right in the middle of the "Touch A Truck" was a boat!  This gentleman was quite interesting  to talk to and drew a crowd just as large as the trucks on display.  This racing boat is one of many up and down DelMarVa.  They can be seen racing in Chestertown, Oxford and even Crisfield.  (Just to name a few)
