GERMANTOWN, Md. - Maryland State Police have issued an Amber Alert for a missing 11-year-old boy. The alert was issued after the boy's mother was found dead in her bedroom Wednesday night.

Montgomery County Police responded to the 13100 block of Briarcliff Terrace around 8:25 p.m. Wednesday evening as part of a missing person investigation. That's when police say they found the body of 51-year-old Jane McQuain in the bedroom. Officials say there was evidence of trauma to her body.

However, authorities say the whereabouts of Jane McQuain's son, 11-year-old William McQuain, are unknown. William was last in seen at his residence on September 30.

William is described as a light skin black male, approximately 5'0" and 85 lbs. Officials say a vehicle registered to Jane McQuain is also missing and William could be with the vehicle. It is described as a black, 2011 Honda CRV with Maryland tags 5AG9405.

Anyone with information on William McQuain's whereabouts or the location of the missing vehicle should call 911 immediately. Anyone with information on this incident is asked to call the Montgomery County Major Crimes Division at (240) 773-5070.

Crime Solvers is offering a cash reward for information provided to them that leads to the arrest and/or indictment of the person(s) responsible for these crimes. Amber Alerts May Soon Be Displayed On VA. Lottery Signs

Lottery displays in stores across Virginia could soon help state law enforcement locate missing or endangered children under a new partnership between the Virginia Lottery and the Virginia State Police.

Gov. Bob McDonnell said Wednesday that the Lottery has agreed to flash Amber Alert information on in-store displays on more than 5,000 clerk-operated machines and about 700 self-service vending machines at stores across Virginia. The idea was the result of a citizen suggestion submitted to McDonnell by e-mail.

During an Amber Alert, the electronic displays that normally show jackpot amounts and other marketing messages will show the location of the alert and instruct people to go to the Virginia Amber Alert website for more details about the child or abductor.

Messages will be automatically generated by the Lottery's data center when notified by the Virginia State Police, so retailers won't have to do anything when an alert is issued.


"Every second counts and the message needs to be spread quickly," McDonnell said in a news release.


While officials hope the help would never be needed, the Lottery is happy it can use its equipment and partnerships with retailers across the state to help law enforcement, said Executive Director Paula Otto.


The displays won't give descriptions of the child, the abductor or information like the abductor's car.

For example, if someone at a gas station is filling up next to a car holding the missing child or abductor, they wouldn't be able to identify them from the displays unless they went to the Amber Alert website.

But State Police spokeswoman Corinne Geller said simplicity is best when notifying the public and that many people have access to mobile devices to look up more detailed information.

The Virginia Amber Alert Program was established by the General Assembly in 2002. It has been used to issue 29 alerts for missing and endangered child cases that met criteria for activation. The public is notified through broadcast media as well as various alert systems and websites.

12-Year Old Missing For One Week Found Safe

ROANOKE, Va. (AP) -- A 12-year-old girl who had been missing for a week was found unharmed Friday after she and the man accused in her abduction were recognized in a store in San Francisco, police said.

Brittany Mae Smith has since been in touch with her family in Virginia, while Jeffrey Scot Easley, 32, was in police custody in San Francisco, Roanoke County Police Chief Ray Lavinder said at a news conference.

The two hadn't been seen since Dec. 3, when they were captured on store surveillance video at a Walmart in Salem, about five miles from Roanoke.

The girl's mother and Easley's girlfriend, Tina Smith, was found dead on Monday their home in southwestern Virginia. The cause of death has not been released but police consider it a homicide.

Police have refused to say whether they consider Easley a suspect in the mother's death, but they said Friday that the investigation of the slaying would ramp up now that the search for the girl is over.

Lavinder said Brittany and Easley were in a retail store around 3 p.m. in San Francisco when someone in the store recognized the pair from reports on their disappearance and called police. Easley did not resist arrest.

Asked if Easley forced Brittany on the cross-country trip, Lavinder said he didn't know.

"We're just getting bits and pieces of the facts right now," he said.

The girl was aware that her mother had been found dead. She had no signs of physical injury.

Lavinder did not know if Easley had any connections to the San Francisco area or how the pair traveled the 2,320 miles to get there. Roanoke authorities planned to travel to California as soon as possible.

Brittany's disappearance had generated more than 700 tips to Roanoke County police, who earlier Friday said they were deeply concerned after finding no trace of the girl after days of searching.

Lavinder said he had a "tremendous sense of relief" that Brittany had been found.

After learning that her granddaughter was safe, Liz Dyer told The Roanoke Times: "We're so glad. We're bouncing off the walls."

AMBER ALERT For 12-year old Girl

(CNN) -- After finding her mother dead inside their home, police issued an Amber Alert for a 12-year-old Virginia girl who they believe has been kidnapped.

Brittany Mae Smith was last seen "several days ago," according to a Roanoke County statement issued Monday. Police launched a search for Jeffrey Scott Easley, 32, described by authorities as a friend of the dead mother.

"Police have said that the young lady is in extreme danger," said Teresa Hamilton Hall, public information director for Roanoke County.

Roanoke County police went to a Salem, Virginia, residence around 9:30 a.m. Monday after being contacted by concerned co-workers of Tina Smith, the girl's mother. They found the 41-year-old woman's body inside, and police said they were investigating the death as a possible homicide.

Police soon got information that Brittany Smith's whereabouts were unknown, leading them to issue the statewide alert.

"We found out pretty quickly that (Brittany) had not shown up for school. Nobody seemed to know where she was. We're concerned that her disappearance is going to be, at least a good possibility, it has something to do with the homicide," Roanoke County police Lt. Chuck Mason said, according to CNN affiliate WSET of Lynchburg, Virginia.

Virginia's Amber Alert website noted early Monday evening that Easley's car, a 2000 red Chevrolet SUV, has been found. But authorities are still looking for Tina Smith's vehicle, a silver 2005 Dodge Neon four-door sedan with Virginia license plates.

Easley, a 265-pound white male, is 5 feet, 11 inches tall, has brown hair and hazel eyes, the Amber Alert says.

Brittany Smith is 5 feet tall, weighs 100 pounds, and has straight brown hair and brown eyes.

Hall said authorities don't yet have a specific search area, as they are uncertain which direction Easley might be heading or how far he might have gotten. They have asked anyone with information to call 911 or Roanoke County police at 540-777-8641.

AMBER ALERT CANCELED

WILMINGTON, Del.- A 3-year-old boy has been located after he went missing from a Delaware home early Tuesday morning.

New Castle County Police have canceled an Amber Alert issued after reports were issued that the child was abducted at gunpoint.

The missing child, identified as Brian Kenney, was later found uninjured in Wilmington. He is currently being evaluated.

Stumbers (the childs mother) was taken into custody and is facing charges. The incident remains under investigation.

AMBER ALERT

WILMINGTON - Police in New Castle County have issued an Amber Alert after a 3-year-old was reportedly abducted from a Delaware home at gunpoint early Tuesday morning.

Officers were called to the Murray Manor Trailer Park on the 500 block of 6th Avenue at about 2:20 a.m. following reports of a child being abducted by three gunmen.

The child's 24-year-old father said he awoke to three males assaulting him with the butt of a handgun. He was knocked unconscious during the attack and when he arose, he discovered his son and the child's mother were missing.

The victim told police he believes the mother, 24-year-old Ashlie Stumbers, has full custody of his child and she may have played a role in the incident.

The missing child, identified as Brian Kenney, is said to be 3-foot-tall and weighs 45 pounds. He has blond hair, blue eyes and was last wearing blue and yellow pajamas with a print on the front.

Stumbers is said to be 5-foot-4, 135 pounds and has brown hair and blue eyes.

Pelletier was last seen driving a green 1995 Ford Mustang.
