Kudos for Crisfield High Marching Band

 (Crisfield-Somerset County Times)

(excerpt)

Celebrating their win

The Crisfield High School Marching Band — nicknamed “The Pride of Somerset” — brought home two more trophies after competing at Music in the Parks at Busch Gardens Williamsburg. The band was a first place and overall winner in the High School Parade category and upon their return home they were escorted into town by police, EMS and Marion and Crisfield fire departments. The band is under the direction of Heather McHenry, assisted by alumni Chris Ford (percussion) and Lynne Johnson (majorettes). Seniors Kolby Harris and Joelle Whitelock are the drum majors and Addyson Ritz is band captain. The Band Boosters made the May 7 trip possible, and it included time for everyone to enjoy the park.

Longtime Crisfield Drug Dealer Is Sentenced

Pocomoke City Police Partner With Crisfield Police Department:
"Working together makes a difference".

*On May 26, 2011 Chief Kelvin Sewell, then Lt Kelvin Sewell along with Pocomoke City Police Officer Savage traveled to Crisfield MD to assist the Crisfield Police Department with an ongoing drug problem they were experiencing in the area of the Somers Cove housing area.

Chief Sewell and Officer Savage were able to purchase crack cocaine from a known drug dealer who was identified as Andre Fisher of Crisfield, MD. The purchase was made at the residence of Mr. Fisher who resided at the Somers Cove housing in Crisfield, MD.

On March 6, 2012 (today)Chief Sewell, Officer Savage, Lieutenant of Crisfield Police Department, and other Crisfield Officers appeared in Circuit Court in Princess Anne MD for trial. After the testimony of each Officer was given, the Defendant Andre Fisher was found guilty and sentenced to 20 years in prison.

Mr. Fisher then became highly upset and began using profanity towards the Officers and then spit in the direction of the Judge. Mr. Fisher was wrestled to the floor by the Somerset County Sheriff’s Deputies and then carried out of the courtroom.

(Fisher will serve 10 years of 20 years in prison. Ten years of the 20 were suspended.)

Carnival Ride Operator Busted For Selling Drugs

A 40-year-old carnival ride operator at this past weekend’s Hard Crab Derby in Crisfield was arrested for selling drugs while operating the ride.

Crisfield Police say Eric Kovach was working at the 64th annual event for Sherwood Amusement Rides.
Undercover officers were sent to the Derby and one of them was able to purchase oxycodone from Kovach. Police say when they arrested Kovach he appeared to be under the influence of drugs himself.

He was taken to the Somerset County Detention Center and was later released after posting $25,000 bail.

Notes and Photos On The Crisfield Mud Bog

This Saturday will be the last time the mudbogging events will be held in Crisfield.  The last races of the season will be held at the Gumboro track.

The weather for Saturday- so far- will be clear and NO rain.  After the amount of rainfall last weekend there should be NO shortage on mud!  Cooler weather is predicted too.  That's a wonderful thing since the last race held in July was a real scorcher once the breeze stopped.

Haven't done my homework this time.... No word  from some of the 187 East Performance  Team.  I do know that the 'Gray Ghost'  now (or will soon) has a second truck in tow. Lee has left 'The Gray Ghost' for Lori Ann.  And I know that 'Sod Buster' has had a make over and isn't the 'Sod Buster' anymore.  No word from 'All Night Soldier' either.  But no news most of the time is good news.

'In The Mix' has had damaged parts replaced, lost parts found and replaced and is ready for another beating and banging that it always gets while treading the 200 feet of mud.  I'm not sure I'm ready for that race....but I will be.

'Short and Sassy' has been weaned off water, problem corrected and didn't have to go to rehab thanks to Odie.  I personally hope that the TLC from the Mud Doctor back in July and TLC from Odie 'Short and Sassy' will finally travel the 200 feet with the speed I have been waiting for all summer!  (Do you hear me Mud Doctor and Odie?)

Hope to see you there and here's hoping there will be a potty in the pit section we can use!  Walking that distance just doesn't cut it.  Here are some photos from the last race.
First time racer (below)to the Crisfield mud bog. During inspection he found out that his truck didn't meet the rules for his class. So.... determined on racing he made the necessary changes just in time.

While on the other hand another driver was let slide even though his truck didn't meet the requirements set for his class. Gee............Which is best? To obey the rules and play fair or to take advantage of them, or bend them, simply because you helped make the rules..... Be sure you check the rules before you decided to play in the mud.

There's always plenty of friends

He just can't wait to grow into Uncle Barry's driving seat!

Pocomoke City and Crisfield Drug Investigations and Arrests

There were lots of comments made a few days ago concerning the major drug bust in Pocomoke and the lack of  the Pocomoke City Police Chief Ervin or his officers during this gigantic raid.

Well, my friends,  maybe none of that police department was seen because they were off doing other important things........

And if I am correct there was another drug bust in Virginia.  That bust was in continuance with a bust that occured in 2009.  I'll post that soon - once I get some things about it sorted out.

GREAT JOB !!  Pocomoke City Police Department and Crisfield Police Department!

CRISFIELD — The Crisfield and Pocomoke City Police Departments working together on a three-month undercover drug investigation, gained a foothold into some of the closed drug shops that were running in both towns.

The investigation has culminated with the indictment and/or arrest of 10 individuals — six from Crisfield and four from Pocomoke City.

All have been charged with distribution of drugs and other multiple related charges.

'In The Mix' Saves The Best For Crisfield

This mudbogging jeep really took a beating at the first mudbogging race in Gumboro a few weeks ago.  The mud combined with the speed actually caused some major parts to fall off and disappear into that thick mud.  Safety being a good reason the  driver and mechanic returned to the Gumboro grounds the next day to search for the parts left behind.  Somewhere and some how  deep in that gooey mud they found them.

With the Crisfield Mudhop not far off they worked quickly to get "In The Mix" back into racing condition just in time.  After all, the Crisfield Mudhop is where it all began for "In The Mix" many years ago.

Now I say that this jeep is more motor than it is man and metal and Johnny makes me very nervous when it's his turn to speed through the mud!  We've all seen him plow though the mud from side to side, almost turn over, run the bank, head for the pits,  and who knows what else!   But he's good at what he does. He's very good.  (Yea, Johnnie, that's somewhat of an exaggeration).
But NOT last Sunday in Crisfield.
It was almost as if the small jeep  (or motor on wheels) knew exactly where it was  -  back on home ground.

Johnnie Edwards is owner and driver of "In The Mix"

GREAT JOB, JOHNNIE!

Sunday At The Crisfield Mud Hop

For the second year in a row the Eastern Shore Mud Racing  Association and the Crisfield Elks Lodge made the Crisfield Mud Hop happen!  Prior to last years mud hop it had been twenty years since the event had been in Crisfield.

There was plenty of food and during  and everyone agreed that the cool breeze this year was a welcomed improvement from the weather last year when humidity on that day was at a high level.  The disadvantage to the cool breeze was the drying of the track and a few  times racing was halted between classes to "make mud" and it did remedy the dusty problem for many spectators.

But spectators don't mind.  They just want want to see  racing.

As always it's wonderful to see families in attending.

A resonable admission fee is one good reason and the fact that anyone can venture into the pits to get a closer look at the trucks.
