Officer stabs, shoots at firefighters

HALLWOOD, Va. (WAVY) - State police say a Virginia Beach police officer stabbed and shot at two firefighters responding to a car accident he was involved in on the Eastern Shore Sunday morning.
A few minutes after 7 a.m., police received a second call reporting a fight at the scene.
Police say firefighters were assisting the driver, Bradley Colas, 23, of Virginia Beach, when he became irritated and combative. Police say Colas began to fight with the firefighters and stabbed two of them during the altercation.
The firefighters then fought back, striking Colas in the head, according to a state police spokeswoman. Police say Colas then pulled out a firearm and began shooting at the firefighters.
Colas attempted to walk away from the fight with the gun in hand, but was picked up by Virginia State Troopers on the way to the scene.
Colas was taken to Eastern Shore Memorial Hospital where he is in custody and under medical observation.
A police fundraising website lists Colas as a member of VBPD Class 52, which graduated in February, according to the city website .
Atlantic Fire Chief David Grant says the two male firefighters who were stabbed are doing well and spent Sunday night at home. Grant says one was treated on scene, and the other was treated at a hospital and later released.
Chief Grant says both firefighters were veterans of the volunteer company. Grant says one has been on the job for more than 20 years, and the other for more than 30 years.

I'm wondering if he didn't have a combative head injury.
With some head injuries a patient may experience confusion and an inability to understand the care providers are there to help. A patient will respond with fear and agressive resistance not understanding the actions and intentions of care providers.
Anon 11:58 AM They can become aggressive with a head injury. I feel confident that this person responded in such a way that the paramedics and firefighters felt the need to protect themselves. His head injury wasn't so bad he didn't remember where his knife or gun was and how to use them.
Have the police gone nuts or what?
